Hi all! I FINALLY found some time today…albeit at 12:30 am, to share with you some Christmas gifts my boyfriend pat and I created for my family members and a co-worker today after I saw the idea HERE.
Pat went to Home Depot and bought the glass blocks for $5.00-$6.00/ea. He frosted the sides with some Krylon and Rustoleum frost spray for use on bathroom windows, etc. The embellishments and ribbon were purchased at Dollar Tree. Furthermore, I purchased some LED lights in 50 count strands at DG Hardware. They fit inside after pat drilled some holes in the back of the blocks. The lights are great b/c they don’t use up a lot of energy and they stay cool. I think they turned out exactly the way I wanted them to. I hope you enjoy looking at them. Pat has to finish my Brother-in-law’s yet and then we’ll be done.
*edited to add: I received a question re: the size of drill bit used as well as it was mentioned that there are glass blocks that they sell at Hobby Lobby pre-drilled. But, if you would like to know how my boyfriend pat did ours, here is what he said:
He used a dremmel tool and it was about a 1/8″ diamond bit.
It has to be under water to keep it cool or the bit burns out. In addition, it takes about 10 mins to do one hole and you basically grind a circle out instead of just drilling it. Once you penetrate
through the glass, there is a gas that escapes. Don’t be alarmed.
This first one will be for my sister. I created a vintage style for her. The creme colored ribbon I bought at a garage sale.
This second one is for my co-worker. She bought me a present already so, I wanted to reciprocate. I actually used some ribbon here that was saved for me by a friend at work from a goody box we received last week. This is a smaller block so it worked out perfectly. Pat helped me pick out the finishing touches with adding the greenery and berries. I just could NOT find something that would work. Thank God for his creative side…LOL
This one, believe or not, was created by my boyfriend for my dad. Didn’t he do a great job??! I LOVE the train and yes, it was purchased at the Dollar Tree too. My dad collects trains.
Lastly, this is for my mom. I know she’s all about Christmas and loves the little added touches. So, I made hers with a gold fruit, some pine sprays and some vintage style ribbon.
Thankyou for taking the time to look. I’m glad I can share with you what’s been keeping me busy, aside from laundry, cleaning and trying to finish Christmas shopping which we FINALLY completed today! YAY!! we’re going out tomorrow to buy some Christmas wrap.

wowza these are fantastic!!!!!
so pretty i bet when plugged in
These are so pretty Sue. I’ll bet they are beautiful when lit. Hobby Lobby sells those blocks pre-drilled just in case someone wants to make one and they don’t have a boyfriend with a diamond bit drill!
Lovely glass blocks, Sue. I love the snowy effect to them. I actually sold my very 1st item in my new Etsy store, and it was a glass block luminary. What size drill bit did you use for the hole? I’m just curious because we were recommended to use the 1/2″ and I think it’s a bit too small. The ones that I’ve decorated were already pre-drilled.
Oh, they are gorgeous! I`m sure they will just love it!!! Lucky them!
hugs & kisses
